ARCHITECTURE

Frank Lloyd Wright introduced the word ‘organic’ into his philosophy of architecture as early as 1908. It was an extension of the teachings of his mentor Louis Sullivan whose slogan “form follows function” became the mantra of modern architecture. Wright changed this phrase to “form and function are one,” using nature as the best example of this integration.

 

Organic architecture involves a respect for the properties of the materials—you don’t twist steel into a flower—and a respect for the harmonious relationship between the form/design and the function of the building (for example, Wright rejected the idea of making a bank look like a Greek temple). Organic architecture is also an attempt to integrate the spaces into a coherent whole: A marriage between the site and the structure and a union between the context and the structure.

 

MOTIVE

It is the potential for long-term maintenance of wellbeing, which in turn depends on the wellbeing of the natural world and the responsible use of natural resources Bio Caribe is putting the common phrase” Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” into action by forming a community centered around creating resource rather than consuming them. Through organic farming, alternative energy, recycling and communal spirit this sustainable community allows its members to enjoy a life surrounded with likeminded people who share the same values as you do.

 

By producing food, energy, and using alternative building technics members are able to drastically reduce their monthly existences, and

even generate income. While a consumer based lifestyle tends to mean longer work days to pay for products produced by others, our proposed life style at Bio Caribe enables members to produce basic commodities for themselves leaving more time for things you really want to do and personal enjoyment.

From the experiences during the time I run my own building company “Eco-development” and the successful sustainable certificated Tree House Lodge hotel, our team actually started to be familiar with green building technicians.

 

From experience my philosophies are very simple, design around and with nature. All new custom home designs should be designed with these priorities in mind. Nature was there before we were, therefor we should incorporate and create a union between the context and the structure. The natural surroundings should become one again after the building is finished. The integration is complete when it looks like this new building has always been there before.
